Common Modalities (Types of massage)

Top | Focused Modalities | Other Services
Swedish - Relaxation
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It uses a firm but gentle pressure to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. This is the foundation for many other modalities.
Therapeutic
Very similar to the Swedish massage, but with an intent to gently work out specific areas of discomfort or restrictions.
Deep Tissue
This is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. The pressure will be more intense. This is more of a focused type of massage, and may leave you with a feeling of soreness the day after, much like an intense workout.

Focused Modalities

Thai Massage
Thai Massage was developed by Buddhist monks in Thailand as a healing modality 2,500 years ago. It uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension and balance the body’s energy systems. It is both deeply relaxing and energizing.

Thai massage takes place on a futon mat on the floor, and you wear loose fitting clothing, like sweat pants. You start by laying on your back, and I use gentle compression and stretching techniques to open up your body, beginning with your legs.
Cranial Structural Release

Within the structure of everyone’s body there exists a core distortion pattern.  It is likened to a spiral that runs throughout the body from the top of the head down to the feet.  When people experience musculoskeletal pain there is an observable increase to this distortion.  Addressing and releasing this core distortion pattern is a viable way to achieve pain relief and return to normal function. This is a major focus of cranial/structural release techniques.  This pain relief ranges from whiplash flexion/extension injuries to headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, nerve entrapment, sciatica, low back pain, hip pain, knee pain or foot pain.

This requires a 90 Minute Session.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed to help atheletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, function well during training, or the weekend warriors we all know.

But you don't have to be in the Olympics to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people who workout for their own wellness, thosewith injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion.

Other Services

Below are a few additional services that can be added to any session. The time used to apply any of these is NOT taken away from the massage or bodywork.
Kinesiotaping

The Kinesio Taping Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the  practitioner the opportunity to actually give  support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day. It is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation. Kinesio Tex Tape can be used in conjunction with other therapies.

Any Tape applied incurs an additional charge of $1 per foot of tape used.

Parrafin Wax Hand Therapy

Paraffin therapy is one of the most effective methods of applying deep heat to relieve pain and stiffness. The warm paraffin also moisturizes for healthier looking, softer skin. It also feels incredible if you use your hands a lot: Keyboarding to power tool users can benefit.

Add $15 per application . A minimum of siz (6) hours notice is needed if you want this so the wax can be melted.

Ear Candling/Coning

Ear Candling, or Ear Coning, has a very long history as a holistic therapy dating back 3,500 years, practiced by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese.
It is considered a folk remedy and is said to assist the natural clearing of earwax (cerumen) and remove toxins from a person's ear by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal.

Add $20 per ear to be candled. Two candles per ear are typically used.
